In 1500 Spain conquered Mexico naming it New Spain. Life under the Spanish empire was harsh and many of Mexico’s natives (Mayans and Aztecs) were forced into slavery. Years later, on September 16, 1810 and under the guidance of priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla the Mexican people began their revolt against the Spaniard empire. Finally in 1821 Mexico defeated Spain. Nowadays Mexican Independence Day is celebrated every September 16 to remember the beginning of the Mexican struggle towards freedom.
In previous years our school has been characterized by its effort to continue supporting our Hispanic heritage. This year we want to recognize Mexican Independence Day for the importance it has for our heritage, reason why we ask for the continuous support of parents and students.
